MBABANE– As the country prepares for the upcoming National Elections this year, the Women and Law Southern Africa (WLSA) is all over the four regions of the country preparing women for the elections.

The purpose of the organisation (WLSA) is to contribute to the socio-economic, political, and legal advancement as well as the protection of women and girls. This is achieved through strategic action, lobbying, research, advocacy, and policy changes which discriminate and disadvantage women and girls.

WLSA National Director Sizakele Hlatshwako revealed it was all hands on deck as registrations approach finish line and the national elections approach.

“We are prepared and have been going out to all the country’s four regions. Our main purpose is to ensure that more women register for the elections. We will achieve this through visits to different communities whereby we teach women, men, and young people about the importance of having a woman lead or in a leadership position,” said Hlatshwako.

Hlatshwako further mentioned that they had knowledgeable women within their organisation about the electoral process.

“What we have done over the years is to take women who are knowledgeable on the electoral process with us to enlighten, help, or advice women in the different regions.

“Last year, the organisation launched a themed booklet ‘Promoting the Realisation of Women’s Political Participation’ (WPP) and Land Rights in Eswatini which is still being used,” said the National Director.

Voting for 2023 local government elections commenced on January 13, 2023, and will run until February 24, 2023.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development Prince Simelane is still yet to reveal the date for the National Elections.
