MBABANE – Following the huge success of the National Women Sports Day on Saturday, attended by about 100 women, the event will now be staged annually.
The sports day was hosted by the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC), under their ‘Women In Sports’ programme. It was held on Saturday at the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Technical Centre, with the guest being the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima.
ESRC Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane said they were overwhelmed by the numbers of women who participated.
“This was just a special day for women in the country and the numbers proved that women want to partake in sports. It will definitely be an annual event and we are grateful to our social and corporate partners for the massive role they played towards the day’s success,” he said.
The day started with a walk from the EFA Technical Centre, to Gables, which was led by Minister Nzima.
On return to the Technical Centre, participants underwent a vigorous one hour aerobics session, before playing a variety of fun games on offer.
Cultural activities, which included Ummiso and Indlamu marked the conclusion of the day.
