MBABANE– World Vision continues working towards improving lives in Eswatini.
Five orphaned children have a roof over their heads as World Vision has assisted them by constructing a two-roomed house for them through the Somntongo Area Programme.
According to a statement released yesterday by World Vision Eswatini through their Facebook page, prior to this development, the children lived in an old structure that was unsafe and in bad condition as they lost their mother in 2015.
The state of the previous house provided gateway for the children to be in harm’s way as they could not lock the doors to this structure leaving them and their belongings in a vulnerable position.
One of the five children expressed gratitude towards World Vision Eswatini as they revealed the struggles that they experienced.
“For the longest time, we had not been sleeping in the old house as its door was not working properly and could not be locked. As a result, one day we came back from school to discover that some people had stolen our food and clothes. It was sad for us all and we asked for food from our neighbour,” said the child.
The name of the child is known to this publication, but cannot be revealed due to ethical reasons.
The children were also exposed to snakes and bad weather as the door to the house was short and had an opening below.
“Even after killing the snakes, we would be forced to sleep inside the house and we would be so scared, but we did not have any choice. One day while cooking in our open kitchen, we saw a big snake. We ran away because we were afraid of killing it since it was very big. We called our neighbour who came and killed it,” revealed the child.
According to World Vision Eswatini, the children expressed gratitude to the organisation as they were awarded the keys to the house after its completion. They revealed that they finally felt safe and would not have to worry about bad weather conditions and dangerous animals.
