MBABANE – World Vision Eswatini (WVE) has helped the community of Zandondo by making them realise there is life in farming and vegetables.
This was done through the installation of the Zandondo Water Project by World Vision which brought water closer to their homes, and most community members have invested their time in creating backyard gardens. The TAVI Project, in collaboration with World Vision, also donated a total of 100 seed kits to some of the community members.
A community member Linda Gembe said they were forever grateful for the help received from TAVI and World Vision.
“There is life in gardening, a lot of it. If we put more effort into taking care of our gardens, we can even start supplying our local schools with vegetables like spinach. Our children in these schools will also be healthy,” she said.
The Zandondo community also attended a Taiwan-Africa Vegetables Initiative (TAVI) cooking demo hosted by World Vision Eswatini. Community members were taught by Home Economics Officers (boLomakhaya) from the Hhohho region the importance of growing their vegetables, and the correct, healthy way of cooking them.
“World Vision really helped us achieve most of the things we wish a community could have, from building toilets, to providing the Zandondo with clean water.”
“Today, we are going to teach you how to nourish your body by cooking your vegetables using a healthy way that makes you get all the nutrients from eating your greens”, Nosisa Dlamini, a Home Economics Officer from the Hhohho region highlighted,” she said.
