Speaking about the plastic ban, Yibutse Green Action Executive Director Musa Ndlangamandla described the step taken by Government as a step in the right direction, as far as development was concerned.

“This bold, brave and laudable move by the government is in step with leading countries of the world. It puts Eswatini on the pedestal to achieve great strides in the fight against plastic pollution. We applaud the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Environment Affairs Jane Mkhonta-Simelane for the bold, future-focused decision. As Yibutse Green Action we strongly support this move and hope that the whole country will join us in applauding this future-conscious decision,” said Ndlangamandla.

“We are confident that new industries, fresh opportunities, and success stories will be born from this great move,” he added

Additionally, Ndlangamandla highlighted the importance of law enforcement and awareness creation activities to accompany the ban. Emphasising a balanced ‘carrot and stick’ approach, he stressed the need for widespread awareness and conformity with the new legislation.

The Eswatini Environmental Authority (EEA) also received credit from Yibutse for its behind-the-scenes efforts and sacrifices that peaked in the realisation of the ban. The champions of the environment, both within the country and around the world, were recognized for their support and persuasive efforts that contributed to this significant milestone.
