YOUNG EMASWATI TO PARTICIPATE IN PRESTIGIOUS LEADERSHIP EXCHANGE PROGRAM IN THE US

MBABANE – The United States continues to share its best knowledge with young Emaswati, as 3 young leaders will travel to the US for knowledge next week. The selected youth are alumni of the Mandela Washington Fellowship program which has taken many Emaswati for leadership exchange programs with US institutions since its inception in the Obama administration.

This development was announced by the US Embassy Eswatini through their official social media pages. The statement reads:

“We are excited to announce that Bongekile Matsenjwa, Mmeli Hlanze and Sakhile Shabangu have been selected to participate in the Mandela Washington Fellowship’s Alumni Enrichment Institutes. They will be traveling to the U.S. to participate in this prestigious leadership exchange program next week.

Congratulations!!

The Alumni Enrichment Institutes are a unique follow-on opportunity for 2021 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni to travel to the United States to collaborate with U.S. counterparts and build upon the skills they developed during their Fellowships. Participants will engage in their Alumni Enrichment Institutes at eight U.S. educational institutions across the country for two weeks. Throughout the program, Participants will develop lasting connections with Americans while enhancing their skills through leadership training, experiential learning, and networking. They will also develop innovative solutions to pressing challenges in their home countries and collaborate with their peers from both the United States and Africa.

This announcement comes barely 24 hours after the U.S. Embassy announced that Tive Khumalo, a Physics and Mathematics (Financial and Mathematical Statistics) graduate from the University Of Eswatini will be pursuing a Masters in Statistics, Measurement, and Evaluation in Education at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) – as a 2022 Fulbright scholar. Tive is The Master’s program will equip him with skills such as statistical data analysis, statistical modeling, evaluating educational programs, and conducting surveys.

Tive joins other young Emaswati in the 2022 Fulbright scholarship, including Samkelo Dlamini Samkelo Dlamini who will be studying Law at the University of Minnesota. Samkelo is an admitted attorney of the High Court of Swaziland since 2017 and has worked for Oracle Insurance Eswatini), the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) and Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications Corporation – EPTC.
