BY SABELO GWEBU

MANZINI– Zakhele Dlamini is back as President of Athletics Eswatini.

Dlamini, who is also the Vice President of the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association, was elected unopposed after Selby Shongwe chose not to stand for the elections. Dlamini is the director of the TZD Athletics Club.

Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) Chairman Sipho Vilakati was elected AE’s new vice president, accumulating nine votes and beating the sitting vice-president Harry Malindzisa who got six votes.

This was during AE elective congress at Khanyisa House, Eswatini Electricity Company Manzini Regional headquarters in Manzini on Saturday.

In the treasurer position, Bongani Ntshalintshali retained it after his competitor Sipho Vilakati has already won the vice-presidency post.

Nondumiso Ndzinisa did not submit her qualifying documents and therefore Sanele Manana won unopposed in the Gender and Equity Chairperson position

In his victory speech and on behalf of the new executive board, Dlamini said those who did not make it must remain in the sport and continue its development.

“Sports by its very nature is competitive and I welcome the new members of the council. Let us all contribute so that the sport can be the winner at the end of the day,” he said.
