MBABANE – Eswatini Communication Commission (ESCCOM) and other stakeholders took time today and educate the leaners of Enjabulweni High School on Cyber Security.
The stakeholders include the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Real Image and the DPM’s Office. According to Nokuthula Hlophe from ESCCOM, they were raising awareness on Child Online Safety which involves following the rules set by the Internet service provider. “Never reveal personal information such as address, phone number, school name or location. Use only a screen name and do not share passwords other than with parents. They should also do not accept every friend requests sent to them,” she said.
She also stated that the leaners were told to report cyber bullying and the procedures of reporting such abuse. It is said they were also warned about gaming, which makes them to spend too much time online and expose them to cyber bullying.
Cyber Security Officer Mlindzi Dlamini touched on the issue of mobile money fraud and romance scam since most leaners now on mobile cellphones. “Romance scam affect young girls because they are too trusting online and end up divulging a lot of information including location and banking details,” he said.
