MANKAYANE – Out of the 18 constituencies in the Manzini Region, Mankayane directly services five of them.

This was revealed by Manzini Regional Administrator (RA) Prince Gija when addressing Their Majesties today during the King’s Birthday at Mankayane Sports Ground. Prince Gija said these constituencies had a massive potential of producing agricultural products, which could make a substantial contribution to the economic growth of the country.

The constituencies serviced by Mankayane include Ngwempisi (where this town is situated), Phondo, Mangcongco, Mahlangatsha, and Ntondozi. Prince Gija started with Ntondozi, which is represented in Parliament by MP Peter ‘Vulinjini’ Ngwenya. He said this constituency was known for producing vegetables. He called upon residents of this constituency to continue producing more of these vegetables, in line with the ‘Nkwe’ command from Their Majesties.

Another constituency that Prince Gija spoke about was Mangcongco, which is represented in Parliament by MP Nomalanga Dlamini. According to Prince Gija, this constituency was proximate to Montigny Investments in Bhunya. Its land was used to grow pine trees that could be sold to the company. He said Mangcongco could produce a lot of honey and other bee products because of the pine trees.

Another constituency that Prince Gija talked about was Phondo, which is currently represented by MP Bonginkosi Dube. Prince Gija said Phondo had fertile soil, which could produce potatoes and other products. He said this constituency could also produce honey because it also grew pine trees for Montigny Investments.

Concerning Mahlangatja, which is currently represented by Mguciso Dlamini in Parliament, Prince Gija said this constituency was known for producing more maize and sold it to the National Maize Corporation (NMC). Residents from that constituency also produce more beans.

He said Ngwempisi hosted the town of Mankayane. He said Ngwempisi was also known for excelling in agriculture.
