… as 4,100 made the ascent

MBABANE – The Mbabane Mbuluzi Rotary Club today delivered all the feedback from this year’s Sibebe Survivor Challenge, and it was nothing but good news.
In a prize presentation ceremony held today in Mbabane, the Mbuluzi Rotary Club disclosed all the relevant achiements and statistics from this year’s Sibebe Survivor Challenge.
The challenge, which was held in July 2023, saw about 4,100 individuals show up for the long hike up the Sibebe Rock. This was also disclosed during the prize giving ceremony.
The Sibebe Survivor Challenge, which is a charitable fundraising walk, raised over E713,000 this year. This was also disclosed by the Mbuluzi Rotary Club Communications Officer Sikhumbuzo Mbuyisa, who also shared what the money will be used for.
“The money which managed to raise, having subtracted the associated expenses and costs, is E713,500. This money will be used for development work in different communities. All of it, as we have raised it, will be given back to the public to help communities we work with,” said Mbuyisa.
“Right now, we have a project we are doing in the country, where were able to scure funding from the Rotary Foundation of about $155,000 US Dollars which is helping us build a school where people will learn mechanical engineering,” said Mbuyisa.
Speaking on behalf of the benefactors was Maphevu Gama from Sibebe Community Trust, who said the following.
“There are chidren who are not able to properly attend school, and we know that we prioritise education. So, some of the funds raised will be used for scholarships for those children. There are also community projects, which include water, roads, electrification, and other projects,” said Gama.
Some of those who were awarded today were Emergency Medical Services, and Cheshire Homes.
The Sibebe Survivor Challenge will be next held again on August 4, 2023.
